During the year the Women‘s group held fortnightly meetings on Mondays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 7:30pm to 10:00pm. Membership numbers fluctuated between twenty - three and thirty and now stands at twenty-six.
The current age range is 40 – 85 years with the main aim of the Women‘s Group to:
Keep healthy and to support each other in any way possible. There were many times when this was done due to illness of several members and also to support other groups in the community.
Members are encouraged to develop active minds and improve their skills.
To this end speakers on a variety of topics were invited to meetings. Also 11 members attended 3 sessions on Palliative Care Planning for Choice in End of Life Care‘.
The majority of the Group members were active in the community during the week, representing the Group at meetings and gathering information to report back, attending singing, sewing and computing classes.
The Group entertained others in their centres, e.g. in Christ Church, Burngreave, for Martin Luther King birthday celebrations, Lodge Moor Elderly Lunch Group, Day Care Centre, and during Black History Month school events. The Women‘s Group performance at the Town Hall during Older People‘s Day Expert Elders Event received high praise and congratulations.
Celebrating Christmas with other Groups in SADACCA - the combined Christmas Carol Service and the Children‘s party were also contributed to by the Group.
There was a sadness shared in the Group on the demise of relatives and friends.
As members of the Group the women have given willingly of their time and energy to help individuals throughout the past year. In the New Year 2010 the Group hopes to visit other Women‘s Groups outside the Sheffield area. New Members are always welcome.
